Root Canal Treatment in Ahmedabad & Rajkot: Single-Visit RCT, Cost and Recovery

Root canal treatment in Ahmedabad and Rajkot - single-visit RCT with EndoDeck at Dr Agravat Dental Clinic and Implant Wellness Center

Reviewed by Dr Bharat AgravatCategory: EndodonticsUpdated: October 2026

Throbbing toothache at night, pain when you bite, or a tooth that hurts with hot tea? These are common reasons patients in Ahmedabad and Rajkot visit us. In many cases the tooth can be saved with root canal treatment (RCT) instead of being removed. This page explains, in simple words, how root canal treatment works at Dr Agravat Dental Clinic & Implant Wellness Center, what it costs and what to expect afterwards.

What is root canal treatment?

Every tooth has a soft core called the pulp, which carries nerves and blood vessels through narrow channels inside the root. These channels are the root canals. When decay, a crack or an injury lets bacteria reach the pulp, it becomes inflamed or infected and cannot heal on its own.

In root canal treatment, the dentist removes the damaged pulp, cleans and disinfects the canals, and seals them. The outer tooth stays in your mouth and keeps working like a natural tooth once it is restored.

Word you may hear What it means for you
Pulp The living nerve and blood supply inside the tooth
Root canal treatment (RCT) Cleaning, disinfecting and sealing the inside of the tooth
Single-visit RCT The full canal treatment completed in one appointment, when the tooth allows
Re-RCT (retreatment) Treating a tooth again when an older root canal has become infected
Crown or cap The protective cover placed on the tooth after treatment

Signs you may need a root canal

  • Toothache that wakes you up or starts on its own
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers after the food is gone
  • Pain when biting or chewing on one side
  • Swelling of the gum or a small pimple-like boil near a tooth
  • A tooth that has turned darker after a fall or injury
  • A deep cavity or broken filling that keeps hurting
Please note: some infected teeth cause no pain at all, and not every toothache needs a root canal. A clinical check and an X-ray decide. If you have facial swelling with fever, come in the same day; difficulty breathing or swallowing needs emergency hospital care.

How root canal treatment is done at our clinic

  1. Examination and digital X-rayWe look at the tooth and gums, test the nerve and take a digital (RVG) X-ray to see the roots and the infection.
  2. Numbing and isolationLocal anaesthesia makes the tooth comfortable. A thin rubber sheet (rubber dam) keeps the tooth clean and dry.
  3. Opening and cleaningA small opening is made on top of the tooth. The infected pulp is removed and each canal is located.
  4. Shaping and disinfectionFlexible nickel-titanium rotary files shape the canals while disinfecting solutions wash out bacteria.
  5. Sealing the canalsThe cleaned canals are filled and sealed with a biocompatible material so bacteria cannot return.
  6. Rebuilding the toothThe tooth is closed with a filling and, in most back teeth, protected with a crown.

Single-visit root canal with the EndoDeck system

Many patients in Ahmedabad are busy and prefer fewer appointments. When the tooth is suitable, Dr Bharat Agravat and the team can complete the entire canal treatment in one sitting using the EndoDeck™ endodontic system, a digital workflow that combines RVG imaging, rotary instruments, electronic apex location and three-dimensional sealing of the canals.

  • Fewer clinic visits and less time off work
  • One anaesthetic instead of several
  • The tooth is sealed sooner, reducing the chance of re-contamination between visits
Is it right for every tooth? No. Single-visit treatment is chosen only after examination. Heavy infection, pus that keeps draining, very curved or blocked canals, or an old root canal that needs redoing may be safer in two or more visits.

How long does it take?

Type of tooth Usual chair time
Front tooth About 30 to 60 minutes
Premolar About 45 to 90 minutes
Molar (back tooth) About 60 to 120 minutes
Complex case or retreatment Often two or more visits
Crown after RCT A separate appointment once the crown is ready

These times are a general guide. Your dentist will tell you the plan for your tooth before starting.

Does a root canal hurt?

The treatment itself is done with the tooth fully numbed, so most patients feel only pressure or vibration. In fact, root canal treatment is usually what removes the pain of an infected tooth. For two to three days afterwards the tooth may feel tender when chewing; simple painkillers advised by your dentist usually help. Call us if pain gets worse, swelling appears or your bite feels high.

Root canal cost in Ahmedabad and Rajkot

As a guide, root canal treatment in India usually costs about Rs 3,000 to Rs 9,000 or more per tooth. The final amount depends on the tooth, how many canals it has, how complex the infection is, and whether a crown is needed.

What affects the cost Why it matters
Tooth position Molars have more canals than front teeth
Number and shape of canals Curved or narrow canals need more time
First treatment or retreatment Redoing an old root canal is more complex
Single or multiple visits Depends on infection and anatomy
Crown or filling afterwards Charged separately; material changes the price
Before you start: ask what your estimate includes: consultation, X-rays, the canal treatment, temporary and final filling, crown and review visits. At our clinic you receive a written estimate after the examination. EMI options may be available; ask the front desk.

Root canal or extraction?

Root canal treatment Tooth removal
Keeps your natural tooth and root The tooth is lost
Chewing feels natural after a crown Gap may need an implant or bridge later
Protects neighbouring teeth from drifting Teeth around the gap can shift
Best when the tooth can be restored Needed when the tooth is cracked or too broken to save

When a tooth can be predictably restored, saving it is usually the first choice. If it cannot, Dr Agravat’s team will explain replacement options such as a dental implant.

Crown after root canal treatment

A root-canal-treated back tooth is more likely to crack, so a crown is usually advised. Patients often ask which crown to choose: zirconia, E-max or PFM. Read our simple comparison: Zirconia vs E-max vs PFM crowns.

Aftercare: the first few days

  • Wait until the numbness wears off before eating
  • Chew on the other side until the final filling or crown is placed
  • Brush and floss as usual, gently around the treated tooth
  • Take medicines exactly as advised
  • Do not delay the crown appointment; a temporary filling is not a long-term seal

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I need a root canal or just a filling?

Only an examination can tell. We check the tooth, test how the nerve responds and take a digital X-ray. A deep cavity that has not reached the nerve can often be filled; a nerve that is badly inflamed or infected usually needs root canal treatment.

Can root canal treatment be done in one visit in Ahmedabad?

Yes, in suitable cases. At our Thaltej clinic, single-visit root canal treatment with the EndoDeck system is offered when the canals can be cleaned, disinfected, dried and sealed safely in one sitting. Teeth with heavy infection, swelling, unusual anatomy or an old root canal filling may need two or more visits.

How much does a root canal cost at Dr Agravat Dental Clinic?

As a guide, root canal treatment in India usually ranges from about Rs 3,000 to Rs 9,000 or more per tooth, depending on the tooth, number of canals and complexity. The crown is charged separately. You receive a clear written estimate after your examination.

Will the root canal be painful?

The tooth is numbed with local anaesthesia, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Mild tenderness while chewing for a few days afterwards is common. Severe or increasing pain, swelling or fever should be reported to the clinic.

Do I need a crown after root canal treatment?

Back teeth usually need a crown because they take heavy chewing forces and are weaker after treatment. Some front teeth can be restored with a filling. Your dentist will advise which option protects your tooth best.
